The Transportation Security Administration said it will change they way its officers search passengers with body piercings after a Texas woman complained she was forced to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane.

Reason #666 why i'm glad I never got nipple rings!

My Guess also (Reason #47) is maybe DNA and your Y chromosome gave you a bit less mass to insert one ?

What a sexist comment, Tedd! I am shocked. I'm so reporting you!
Can you imagine a guy - like, say, me - getting wanded in front of my nieces? Oy.

getting wanded in front of my nieces? Oy
If you do, could you make sure you get a nice photo ? I could do the interview if you want to write the article and get the page hits :-)

on you :-)
That part was to you...

I'm sure that if I'm being wanded - presumably by a law enforcement - making sudden moves to grab something out of a bag (a camera but would they know that?) might not be the best move ever.

Meanwhile they are considering making screenings more serene
All I can say is OUCH!! Stupid TSA agent, use your teeth next time, much more fun and less pain.
- 4 votes
Pliers? Barbarians! You need circlip pliers for that.
If it was a large gauge piercing, pliers would not have been a lot of fun. Nipple piercings are funny things.

In the US the people that cannot get into the police department end up as security guards.
Those that cannot even make it as security guards end up as TSA agents.
Somewhat at the low end of the gene pool...

Yeah well they normally have female TSA officers so Tedd... your idea above might have not been that fun to her, but then again it might have... lol.

God, it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

Sandie... me too!!!

This is completely idiotic, when they put cargo on every plane that has not been searched. I would have called for a supervisor or someone with a brain and authority before I would have subjected myself to this kind of humiliation. It doesn't say much for the woman.
- 2 votes
Sally you are correct... it is idiotic and I would imagine painful.

I cannot understand why some people have extremely sensative parts of their bodies pierced at all. By "sensitive" I mean, Nipples, Genetalia, eyebrows, tongues lips and navels.
If they think it makes them look "sexy" then they are sadly mistaken.
It is also dangerous, as these areas can easily fester and turn septic. Ugh!!!! Makes me shudder just to think about it.
- 4 votes
From my viewpoint, "Sexy" and body piercing do not belong in the same sentence. I have seen some very attractive people until I notice some idiotic ring in their nose or tongue and that is a total turn off for me. Call me old fashioned, but ugh.....

Sandie, you obviously understand little about body piercing.
I suggest you not only research it first, but avoid the old wives tales about pretend dangers.
You want to know the most dangerous method of piercing? The one that spreads disease, has no form of proper sterilisation and results in nasty infections? It's the one you probably think of as the safest. It's that untrained teenager in the local mall or hairdresser armed with a filthy ear piercing gun that shoots a blunt object through your ear.
Not only do professional piercers receive training and have a good understanding of anatomy, but they have studios that are scrupulously clean and follow proper sterilisation procedures. They also need to follow local laws and regulations in respect to hygiene. Contrast that to someone with no training, minimum wage, filthy equipment that cannot be properly sterilised and equipment that is totally unsuited to piercing.
Piercing guns should be outlawed and yet these disease-spreading outfits are permitted to do whatever the hell they like (including piercing areas other than ears) with no oversight.

t's that untrained teenager in the local mall
I hate watching those ! Half the time they are talking to somebody else or looking around and not paying attention to what they are doing.

I pierced my second earring hole with just ice and a needle... of course a little alcohol was involved.

Those agents should have the discretion to use their good judgement. Can woman not wear earings onto the plane? What's the difference if an agent confirms the earings to be harmless?

My guess is because they are in plain view. But that is just a guess...

Red Wolf, we in Britain have very strict laws regarding Tattoo and Body Piercing. The establishments that perform it are inspected regularly, and the staff have to be fully trained and certified.
But, you are correct, I don't know a lot about body piercing. The most I had done was my ears, and that was a very long time ago now, and as I haven't worn earrings for years, I doubt if I could get them in, now.
- 3 votes
See what I mean about the double standard? Tattoo and body piercing establishments must comply with strict laws, the bimbo down at the mall with a filthy piercing gun doesn't. It's a serious exemption and it's not limited to any one country.
You want a piercing done, you go to a professional. You want to play infection roulette, you can take your chances on the gun.
- 3 votes
We have those laws also. Problem is, they apply to the professional places and some area's are very well enforced and others are not. Depends on State or county and who controls what agency. Then you have the worst disasters like the traveling Carnival's where you can go and get piercing's/tattoos or whatever and its a fad as its a "group thing". Trouble is that since it is a traveling event, they are not regulated. I talked to a nurse at a 24hr walk in clinic and she said that on a normal basis they treat about 8-10 cases of MRSA infection per month. When the Carnival is in town, it leaps to about 20 per week. That is scary....
Then to save cost of course the home piercing parties and now you can buy almost any kind of piercing gun you want at your local Wal-Mart. Ugh....I see all kinds of nasty infections running around.

I see this kind of action as giving a little bit of power to some people and they go crazy. This person who demanded the removal of the body jewelry should not ever be put in a position of any kind of power they do not know how to administer it with any kind of common sense.
