There are really no words to describe the nervousness and anxiety felt when attending an event such as this, even with people you interact with every day. Your perception of what people look like, who they are and where they came from, are usually far from what you imagined.
Quite honestly, things started with a few hiccups, flight delays, etc., but it ended as one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. I hope that I made life long friends with this group of people, because it would certainly be an honor.
I found all of them charming, engaging and incredibly intelligent people, I was amazed at how easily we were able to converse on every topic known to man, without skipping a beat. Will, Brenda and Scott, kept me in stitches and at times, unable to breathe from laughing so hard. I can never thank them enough for indulging me with their presence. I have to say, because I had never seen a picture of Ron, that he was nothing as I imagined, although he is unassuming, but humorous on the vine, he impressed us all with his wealth of knowledge and ability to talk about virtually anything discussed, his simplistic comments and articles on the vine, do not do him justice, as he is extremely eloquent and knowledgeable on a number of topics, plus.... he has one of the coolest guitars my son, or I have ever seen.
The rules for Vegas apply here as well... what happened at VineMeet, stays at VineMeet... if you wanted to know all the juicy details, you should have been there to live them :L)
I am exhausted from the weekend, but to each of you, Brenda, Scott, Will and Ron, thank you from the bottom of my heart for one of the best weekends of my life.
Mel
Thanks for the pics! Looks like you guys had a great time!
Looks like y'all had a blast! Good times. Good times. :)
I had a great time and appreciate you coordinating, arranging, cat-herding, etc even if at times it seemed like we were in an oven with just three temperatures- hot, hotter and hottest (and no that's not a reference to the silicone>Maxim girls.
Am 20 minutes from home (stopped to check emails for first time in 10 hours) and am definitely sleeping in tomorrow. And checked and I do NOT have jury duty tomorrow - woo hoo!
Oh and I have a new theory on why all the Maxim girls are so short - I figure that just as Menudo had an age cutoff the Maxim girls must have strict regulations about breast sizes height.
Ok, good nite, all.
The maxim girls are not silicone girls. They are church going country girls that are trying to pay for college..
If that church is actively seeking membership, where do I apply?
Thanks for the photos, I like Ron's sartorial Texan eloquence. He mentioned some cowboy hat wisdom. I'd like to suggest he writes an article. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves. It can be trepidatious beforehand but I've found with vinemeets that only makes the relief and enjoyment that much richer.

He said it's important for the hat not to be worn exactly straight - it must be just a smidgen off.
I second that suggestion - he's quick and witty even if he does wake way too early in the morning.
Winsome, the town house we stayed at had a clown-related artwork that Ron and RG were discussing this morning. I snapped a photo for my slideshow article (eta Monday nite) so we can ask you (our resident clown expert) for analysis.
I'm cool with that, I'm a bit of a clown-efisinardo.
The photos will go up in the morning, right before I have to attend jury duty
rebel rebel, wow, i am soooo...complimented. thank you so much, luv, those words , and sentiments will be with me for a very long time. everyone was so much fun to be with, but you and brenda made it a trip to remember for ever. i laughed more with yall than i have in a long time, and that is saying a lot. laughter is like food, or air, it is nurishment for the heart, and the soul. in that case, i will have to go on a diet, hahahah. have you talked to brenda? i hope she makes her flight ok. i will e-mail her in a little while.
wow, we made it there and back, with memories to last. who could ask for anything more?
luv,
ron
p.s. i made four friends this weekend. damn i had a blast. thanks to melissa, brenda, scott and will. peace and love to you all, yall!!!
Great pictures! They make me jealous that I couldn't make it. I'm glad you all had such a good time.
Looks like you all had a great time. I enjoyed seeing the photos.
Good report. Great pictures. I am glad you all had a food time.
The social event of the millennium and I missed it.
Congratulations on organizing this.
I am so sorry I missed this... It looks like it was a blast....
Can I at least get a T-shirt????
Howdy y'all!
Fully in keeping with with my travel history, (and overall lifetime of snafus) I missed my flight home and am thus still in Austin. I'm typing this on the hotel's pc. Now there is Hurricane Dolly in the gulf and a 'cane watch for the Texas gulf coast, but so far my flight is still on time to depart as scheduled this evening.
It was the best weekend I've had in years. Everyone was awesome and although it sounds odd, it was almost like a gathering of old friends rather than people I was meeting in person for the very first time.
I'm sure the big question on a lot of 'viner's minds is this:
Is Rebel Girl as nice in person as she seems online? Not only is she just as nice, she's rockin' awesome.
On top of that, I experienced Rebel Girl niceness in stereo by getting to meet her sister.
I don't have words to describe Ron Baker. He is a fascinating, intelligent, multi faceted, nice x 10, down to earth person.
Scott is great too, and it was a pleasure to meet him in person.
Will is a trip. Bright, funny, sweet, and he's a blast to have around.
I agree with Reb that I am honored to call this group my friends and I thank them, especially Reb and her sister, for making this trip the incredible experience it was.
If anyone ever has the chance to attend a Vinemeet, DO IT!
I'm going to make sure and get one of those "keep Austin weird" T shirts at the airport later. I love this place and can't wait to come back! I'd even stay a couple of days longer to explore some more, but my husband made me promise to be at the airport by 4 to make sure I got home today.
Fortunately Dolly won't be an issue. I just checked and it hasn't changed course, so I'm clear (SE Texas/Mexico is a different story). I've been a little paranoid about storms since the 2004 hurricane season when I went through three of them within a short time.
Looks like you all had fun. I wish I could have been there. But then the pictures would have been rated drunk, drunker and drunkest.lol I am glad you all had fun. I hope to met up with you all at one of the meets.
Love the Pics Rebel!
Thanks for posting so we could all enjoy :)
I hope one day Mr Spydr and I can meet you also... i'm so jealous! :P
Sounds like you had a blast!
w00t! You all looked like you had so much fun. I'm looking forward to meeting you RB for the Austin City Limits festival. :D
I'll make an official announcement as the event draws nearer, don't worry. We've more than two months before the festival date...Timing is everything. ;)
Thanks for the picture tour. Sorry we missed it..
Very cool that you folks met up, and thanks for the pics. How about setting up a Vinemeet here in New York. NYC, or perhaps somewhere upstate?
Will and the Maxim Girls...
Yeah...think Will had a hand full of them there...whoa..
Nice pic's and glad you guys had fun, neat seeing the real people behind the names. Thanks for the pictures.
Looks like you guys and gals had a great time! No one said there were gonna be Maxim girls!
Yeah ready to pack my bags and start my new life with all 6 of my new girlfriends, who all happen to be extremely short. Maybe I can make that 7 if I can find the carriage driver.
Anyways, that was very fun. I don't know if I can find better words to describe it hahaha
Sorry I missed meeting you Will. We'll have an impromptu fort worth shindig soon and get you back down here to teach us how to conduct our lives in total sobriety.
Will, I like guys in cowboy hats so now I am talked into going to the next meet. Lol. Really I hope to join the next meet. I know I would have fun.
Darro.. I would be happy to come down to good ole Texas again... I know you are dying to meet me and learn my ways hahaha
Jessi- don't let the cowboy hat fool you.. I'm really a Yankee....but I guess I can disguise myself well enough
You don't have to disguise yourself. You are going to be a little cutie no matter what! Anyways, I hope to be at the next meet, it looks like you all had a good time.
Jess, be warned:
He's a lightweight, though, when it comes to drinking.
Well, then I am just the person that can change that.lol
Lol. I guess what ever floats your boat. Maybe I will start drinking that too.
Hah, wow
Ok I now know the age he better stick to mountain dew.LOL
Will- way to show Scott who's boss, with the dew. But right now my stomach is not up to all this talk. I had a rough night myself last night. Learned my lesson for a while. Well I guess until I go to the demo derby tonight.
AH, nothing quite like trashy cars running into each other
I love demo derby's. I really like the mini cars. It cracks me up. Yes I am easily amused.
Hiya Will,
*smooch, wink*
Hiya Reb,
I think I've finally caught up on my sleep!
I'll call ya later, as I've mostly been too tired to budge.
Hey, don't knock demolition derbies. When the timing is right they're an ideal way to rid oneself of a legally burdensome vehicle.
Looks and sounds like ya'll had a blast! I'm envious.
Looks and sounds like ya'll had a blast! I'm envious.
Yes, so am I. Lovely pics, and I'm so pleased you had a great Vinemeet. It would be good to get one organised here in England some time.
I have to make one of these Meets one day. The new baby finally arrived and then there's one (maybe two) more quarter(s) of classes for my Masters. After that, maybe I'll get my life back. I wish I could have made this one though. My brother and his family live in Austin. Would have made for a nice double-duty visit.
Congrats on the new BrashMonkey!!!! How about some pix & an article? :) Yay for babies!!!!
Woo hoo! Congrats Brash!!!
Damn conversation tracker. *grumble*
I should post an article, shouldn't I? I'll do that with my thoughts on fatherhood redux. Plus, I've been meaning to post my thesis-like paper from my Masters. Might be germaine to Newsvine discussions, from a meta-level.
BrashMonkey, Congratulations on the newest member of your family.
An official thank you to lauhal, Angel_C, RebelGirl, and JJP. I had to rush out the door as I was writing my last comment in order to catch the ferry (which we missed) to get to our midwife checkup appointment for lil' Grace. I'd dashed off my comment without the due thanks. It's just those sort of comments and interactions that I've missed about being on Newsvine. Photos and a story/article about our first two week journey with Grace to follow...soon...ish.

Congrats, can't wait to read it and see photos
Grace....awwwwwww! I can't wait to see her. :)
mel, i have not fully recovered yet, but i will write a little something this week. i have this wild glow surrounding me, hahahah. and i have to watch my ego, it has been inflated by you and brenda's kind words so much, i'm afraid it will leave stretch marks, hahaha. i love yall, each and every one.
p.s. please give your son and daughter a big hug for me. they are super kids, melissa, and i know you are proud of 'em...i was so blessed when your daughter hugged me goodbye.
luv,
ron
wow mel, that would be some kinda fun. i best suggestion on a guitar would be to make sure that it has a really good action. that means that the strings are close enough to the fret board so that it will be easier to fret, without the discomfort, and will sound soooo much better. there are a lot of fine relitively inexpensive guitars these days. check with someone at your local music store that really knows guitars. they will make selecting a good, but inexpensive model, that will also fit your daughter.
there is going to be a period of...pain, while building up calluses on the fingers...hell, mine still get sore as hell, at times.
the ovation that your son liked was given to me by my twin brother. he also gave me the little electric and th bass. he buys 'em, i play 'em, hahahaha. the only one i bought myself was the washburn, the flame maple one. i was blessed to have family to give me some of the things i have, like the tv and music equipment and th cd playing stuff, which my friend john still hasd not hooked up yet.
anyway, the right guitar, at the very beginning, will ensure that she will stick with it, and will be able to enjoy the experience while she is learning. if i can be of any help, it would be my pleasure, luv.
luv,
ron
Looks like so much fun and the pics are great. It's always nice to see the faces behind these words we read. Thanks for sharing.
