Intoducing New Group Coachingvine - Find Out What You Are Made Of...

advertisement

A few years ago, I experienced a number of personal setbacks, all the while getting ahead in my career. I lost someone who I thought I couldn't live without, so I reached out to the one person who knew us both and I thought could help me. So, in a moment of quiet desperation I picked up the phone and made the call that would change my life, I called a Life Coach. Yes, I can hear the laughs and snickers now, because I heard them back then too, but really… it is I who has had the last laugh.

Throughout the months spent in coaching, I heard all of the comments, "what a waste of money" "there isn't anything you are learning with a life coach that you can't learn on your own" "this is just a scam and think of how your time and money could be spent elsewhere." Still I stuck with it and it paid off.

The questions I ask those who throw those excuses at me… have you ever stopped and asked yourself what direction am I going? Looked at life and wondered where you will be a year from now, or even five years from now, it's sort of like being on a freeway and you are headed directly for the mix master (what Native Texans call a multitude of freeways that merge and all head off in different directions). Somewhere along the way in everyone's life, you get lost; you get off track and end up sitting with a flat on the side of the freeway. The key is finding away to change the tire and get moving again, sometimes you need someone to help you with the tire iron, or the jack… you can't always do it alone.

I will give you an example… have you ever heard of a winning team, without a coach? Having a life coach is like playing on a baseball team, someone points out how to make your swing better, or how to pitch faster, the same goes for life. Sometimes when you are so wrapped up in what is going on, that you lose sight of how to get where you want to go.

Over the past few months I have seen a number of individual's struggle, some losing their jobs, relationship issues, really just life in general. I have had comments about my articles and how they seem to help others at times, so I decided to couple the knowledge of my life coach, with some of my writing to see if we can help a few more people make their lives better.

Starting today, we will have a weekly series about a variety of topics, which will focus on life coaching/executive coaching. My life coach Barry Zweibel, MBA, Master Certified Coach of GottaGettaCoach!®, Incorporated has graciously agreed to be a contributor to the series, see the interview here (http://rebelgirl.newsvine.com/_news/2008/09/19/1885905-interview-with-barry-zweibel-of-gotta-getta-coach-inc-)

A new group has been created: http://coachingvine.newsvine.com/

Sometimes you cannot believe what you see; you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too--even when you're in the dark. Even when you're falling.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Oh your right :
Spring steel is a low alloy, medium carbon steel with a very high yield strength. This allows objects made of spring steel to return to their original shape despite significant bending or twisting, Got this from Wikapedia....

OK Sarge are you saying your set in your ways ?
Just on a funny note....I ate Buffalo for the first time 2.5 months ago in Big D ! Now I am wondering if anyone had a choice between buffalo and beef why they would ever choose beef ?

Very good observation, Kimberly. I make chili from buffalo and no one can ever tell the difference except for one minute detail...... there's no grease in it! That's right, buffalo is 90% leaner than store bought beef.

Food for thought.

Nea'ese...

I had never heard of a LIFE COACH before now, I didn't know that that was an actual profession! What methods of coaching are used?

Great idea Rebel Girl !
What are you made of ?
Ahhh that question requires knowing who we are and what we are passionate about. To get those answers we have to get down to the basics. Then we discover... we don't know who we are, more or less what we are made of.
Some of us have no clue, in fact.... no passion and no individuality.
I find life coaches especially helpful for those who are coming out of a lengthy marriage , relationship or have lost a loved one who was a major influence in our life. When you think about that or have lived through it, it is very hard to separate your own identity from that of your other half or loved one. Somehow we always lose a piece of ourselves or a portion of our own identity. Rediscovery or just regrouping is a process where I think you can use all the help you can get.
When we get discouraged or just in a funk, a helping hand to get back up never hurts and neither will a swift kick in the butt.
Life coaches are capable of doing both.

Absolutely... it was the best investment I ever made in myself :)

What's funny is that everyone thinks I don't need a life coach, or whatever that it is a stupid or ridiculous idea... but life doesn't come with a manual. Family, friends, whatever dont have the right answers, because usually they are wanting you to do what "they" want you to do.

This was a great way for me to get out of the box and figure out what I wanted... and its worked :)

Yes ! And it is because we have done and accepted the things family and friends have imposed on us, or kinder yet... asked of us, we have lost our own identity in the process. I've got your back on this one lol !

I am interested in at least monitoring the discussions. I also had not heard of a Life Coach, but I was immediately not surprised to learn there is such a thing. I have a personal interest in learning what they do and what suggestions they have. I am also interested in learning what type of training, education, and experience it takes to become a "life coach." All of us could potentially be life coaches in specific areas where we have had life take a sharp turn or drop us to new lows.

Trust me it takes a lot of hours of training, mentoring, etc., after my experience with Barry I was really convinced it was what I wanted to do... maybe one day I can manage life and go back to school again.

I hope you will stick around and maybe learn a few tricks... I know I did :)

Interesting......

I'll give it a whirl. I'm standing on the crossroads right now, really been here a while, and I need to get off and start doing something. Everyone has their two bits of "what to do" so why not this?
